Residents Social Events 2024
Almshouses are not just about providing housing. Almshouse have a strong emphasis on community wellbeing. They strive to create environments where residents feel a sense of belonging, security, and mutual support. The focus is on nurturing a community spirit that contributes to the overall wellbeing of each resident and this summer party provided the ideal opportunity to do this and for residents and trustees to socialise.
On the afternoon of Friday 16th August a number of residents and trustees enjoyed a summer party in the Jordon Room at St Johns Baptist Church, Berkswell. The Weather was kind to us, and we were able to sit in the sunshine. Graham, one of our Trustees, provided a quiz which generated lots of discussion and was clearly won by Carol. After the quiz we were entertained by a local Ukulele band who played songs from Elvis, The Beatles and Frank Sinatra.
On 10th December residents, three Trustees, Clerk and our Finance and Minutes Clerk went to Haigs Hotel, Balsall Common for Christmas Lunch. The food was excellent and the trivia facts and Christmas Cracker jokes were interesting and entertaining.
Residents also received a Message in a Bottle. Message in a Bottle, are provided by the Lions Club nationally and locally, is a simple but effective way for people to keep their basic personal and medical details where they can be found in an emergency on a standard form and in a common location - the fridge. Emergency services support this initiative and know to
look in the fridge when they see a Message in a Bottle sticker. Using the information in the Message in a Bottle helps emergency services save valuable time . Balsall Common Lions kindly donated enough Message in a Bottles, so that any resident at the Christmas party, who currently does not have one, could take one home.
