Ancient door knocker in Berkswell

When the Trustees of Berkswell Charities decided to develop an up-to-date website, they realised they also needed a logo which gave them a clear, but easily recognisable, identity for all their stakeholders and for the wider public at large.

It’s no easy matter to design a relevant logo which underlines and sits well with an organisation’s aims and objectives.

Indeed, companies and organisations, great and small, can spend fortunes to get this important brand mark right – and they sometimes fail!.

A small team of Trustees were delegated the task alongside the development of the new website.

Berkswell Charities CIO have three historic objects: to maintain the fabric and contents of St John Baptist Church, to maintain a school in the locality and the relief of the poor and disadvantaged in the village and surrounding areas.

An important part of this relief is the provision of fourteen almshouses in Berkswell village and nearby Burton Green.

The eight almshouse apartments in Berkswell were built in Victorian times and this has been an imposing building on the village green since then.

Taking pictures of the building for the website, led to an interesting visual which excited the team.

It was the Victorian door knocker on the front door to two of the almshouses. A knocker is a sign of welcome and resonates with the hope that a door opening for successful almshouse applicants can lead to a safer, less stressful and secure future.

With the aid of the website developer the image was crafted into the logo using Berkswell Green and gold colouring and now sits on the website and all the Charities’ literature.

It is truly a relevant and distinctive logo fit to take the Charities forward in the 21st Century.
